MAYA LOOM is a brand developed under the Tejiendo Alimentos program in Guatemala. Our goal is to create commercial opportunities for highly qualified artisans in rural communities in Guatemala with high rates of chronic childhood malnutrition.
TEJIENDO ALIMENTOS is an initiative of the Ministry of Economy in Guatemala that, in collaboration with different private and public entities, supports the government’s initiative "Pacto Hambre Cero"--the commitment to eradicate chronic hunger and malnutrition in Guatemala.
With a well defined product strategy, Mayaloom has developed home decor products using a variety of ancestral weaving techniques from many regions. We also have a specific line of products using recycled denim (https://thenewdenimproject.com) manufactured by the reputable company Fabrica Iris. We seek to integrate ancestral weaving techniques to create state of the art designs that can compete in global markets and at the same time generate jobs and income for poor artisan families in rural Guatemala.
